My mom doesnt get here until tonight, and Sam's parents get here this weekend, so it's just been our cute little family here at home this last week and it's been surprisingly chill and blissful.
I just grow more and more in love with Little Adelaide every day. We call her either Adelaide, Addie, Lady, little lady, or Ladybug. She's such a sweet baby and is so good to us. She hasnt ever cried for longer than 40 seconds, is easily calmed, eats like a champ, and just generally does all she can to make being new parents easy on us.
As for me, I've been nearly completely healed from the birth for the last 3 days or so. I'm just dealing with some minor swelling, but nothing that is too uncomfortable at all. My boobs were insane when my milk came in, but that discomfort only lasted for 2 days, now my chest is back to a happy, normal-proportioned status. Also, i've lost 23 pounds now, so that's good news. Every day I wake up to a smaller, tighter tummy- it's great.
Feeding has gone extremely well; she wakes up every 2-4 hours, makes snarky squeak noises to let us know she's hungry, then she eats for 10-30 minutes and either goes back to sleep, or has some quality "staring at mom" time. She makes just the cutest faces and squeaky noises, she totally melts my heart.
Sam is a very good daddy. Even though he cant feed her, he does a great job of soothing her when she starts to get squirmy/fussy. He's such a great help and I just love him times ten. He's been able to work from home all week so it's been great having him here with me all day.
I keep waiting for everything to start sucking. I know it will come; there's no way that we'll get off the hook this easily. But honestly, this last week with Addie has been the best week of my life. I am excited to spend every day with her and see what she will do. Yes, I have to wake up every 3-4 hours at night to feed her and I am dead tired when I do so, but I can't hardly complain about that when I know it could be so much worse. The days are just delightful though. She's just happy and cute all day long. When she's sleeping I get to play on the laptop with her cuddled up next to me, or I put her in her swing and I take a shower, clean the house, or do whatever else I want to do to pass the time. When she's awake, she just sits there and stares and us and makes cute faces. What more could parents ask for?
So perhaps you can all remind me of this post in 2 weeks when she's awake more and crying and driving us crazy... but until then- we are two very happy (though slighty tired) parents. Here are some pics I've taken of her the last few days:
Here she is wearing her "Born to be spoiled" shirt that my neighbor megs gave to us. I usually hate print tees with sayings on them, but this one is just way cute on her.

Oh I just love LOve LOVE newborns!!! They are so sweet. And she is just so precious. Can't wait to hold her. :) As for the babymoon...enjoy it! And hopefully it will never go away. When I did have some really hard nights, though, I just tried to remind myself that this was my job. (The most wonderful, amazing job ever that we are SO lucky to have!!) This is why I am here and this is the most precious time I will have with my baby, because they grow up way way way too fast!!! So I think you're doing awesome.
And 23 lbs. Is it okay to say I hate you? My tummy wasn't tight to begin with...so I don't know what's going to happen after baby #2! ug
I really do love you. :)
YAY for wonderful babymoons! My babymoon with Dylan lasted until he turned three lol. I hope yours with Lady lasts that long.
I love those pictures. Such a sweet little face!
Oh, Lori - what a cutie! I'm so glad things are going so well!!!
Don't wait for the negative to come...sometimes it doesn't. The babymoon may stay - it did for me. We had a VERY good baby, although we kept hearing "oh, don't worry, that will change". It didn't. We had a few bad nights here and there with tummy aches and stuffed noses, but otherwise, babymoon!!! I wish you guys the same. It is SO enjoyable. (And makes you want to have another one!)
Isn't it amazing how much time you can spend just staring at a newborn? :o)
She's a doll!
Oh Lori! I'm in love! She is so precious. I am so happy for how well things have been going for you all. It is such great news how healthy and happy Adelaide is. I hope the bliss continues for as long as possible. She is just so darling! How ever will Sam go back to work? lol. Luvs you!
I remember that feeling of waiting for her real parents to come get her...it took a while to sink in. I just felt like I was babysitting for a long time. She's a sweetie pie!
